I am one of many blog writers who sometimes suffer from what I affectionately call “Blog Burnout”. I know, hard to believe, but on occasion I run out of things to say. Sometimes blogging seems more like work and less like fun. My guess is that most people who get paid to blog do so because they have a passion for writing. However, sometimes when your passion becomes a job, the pressure is on. When the pressure is on, creativity suffers.
Here are some tips to breathe some fresh air into your blogging career:

Ask People for Help – Not everyone is a writer, but you would be surprised at how many people have good ideas. Throw it out there… When I get stagnant I just post a question on my Facebook status message. “Shannon wants to hear your thoughts on plastic surgery”. People LOVE that. Chances are they are sitting at some desk somewhere trying to look busy at some mundane office job and would welcome the distraction. The ideas will come flying in.

Be Observant – You could be sitting down for a boring dinner with aunt Madge, and she might mention something about Swine Flu that catches your attention. Your best friend may have a new take on blind dates.

Remember Your Voice – I know sometimes I find myself comparing my work to other writers. I wonder if my writing is good enough or if I’m losing my touch. My belief is that every writer has these doubts every so often. Remember, if you are getting paid to blog, somebody likes your work just the way it is.

Carry a Notepad with You – You never know when an idea will hit. I’m constantly amazed at the amount of absurd and humorous events that happen in my life on a daily basis. Just one day could give me enough material for a month.

Join a Service – Become a member of blog writing service or an article writing service. They will give you topics. I know for myself, when my imagination is waning, many times just the suggestion of a topic can get my creative juices flowing.

Think Ahead – There’s nothing that says you can’t plan your blogs in advance. Sit down at the beginning of the week and think about what you might blog about.

Balance – Just today I was sitting in front of my computer, willing my fingers to start typing. The longer I sat staring at the blank screen, the more stubborn my fingers were. So what did I do? I took a nap. And now look at me… I’m typing away as we speak! (Ok well maybe not when you read this but you get the idea.) I just needed some rest.

Writers block is something that ALL writers go through. The important thing is to remember that it’s a temporary thing. The nature of life is that all things ebb and flow. Remember you are just in an “ebb” moment, and you could be seconds away from a “flow”.
